What do you usually do when things don’t turn out as expected? When THINGS AREN’T GOING YOUR WAY?
If you’re like many people, you’re probably using TOO MUCH TIME AND ENERGY speculating about why things have happened the way they did and FEELING SAD, DOUBTFUL or DISCOURAGED. Your enthusiasm is gone, you’ve lost motivation, you don’t feel excited any more…
And that’s totally OKAY. When things aren’t going our way, it’s important to let ourselves notice and FEEL WHAT WE FEEL.
And yet it’s even more important in such situations – once we’ve accepted HOW WE FEEL – not to let ourselves stay in this LOW ENERGY feeling state for too long. It’s important to SHIFT OUR ENERGY, so that we can FEEL GOOD again!
And it isn’t easy, is it? It can be challenging to shift from discouragement, or doubt, or sadness to FEELING GOOD, right?
Here’s the GOOD NEWS! It doesn’t have to be hard!
You can help yourself move to a better feeling state just by CHOOSING A DIFFERENT THOUGHT!
YES! You don’t need to wait until your situation has changed, or until you have a new plan, or until someone has done or said something.
You can get FEELING BETTER again by CHOOSING A THOUGHT THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER!
All it takes is choose ANOTHER THOUGHT. And in just A FEW MINUTES you can bring yourself into a completely DIFFERENT feeling place. A GOOD FEELING PLACE!
Let’s play with this a little. Let’s say you feel disappointed or sad because the people you counted on didn’t do what they promised, or because your friend has let you down or because of something else.
- ASK yourself: “WHAT THOUGHT can I think that will make me FEEL BETTER?”
Is it perhaps:
“I’m glad, I’m not the only one going through this situation.”
“I know this is not going to last forever.”
“What if something good will come out of this?”
Look for and find any THOUGHT that makes you FEEL A LITTLE BETTER!
Once you’ve chosen another THOUGHT that made you feel a little better, you ask yourself AGAIN:
- “WHAT THOUGHT can I think that will make me FEEL even BETTER?”
After you’ve chosen a new thought that made you feel a little better, then you ask yourself the same question again…You can repeat this question as many times as you want or until you can feel that you’re feeling really good.
In this way you can in just a few minutes move from feeling sad, or frustrated, or hopeless to feeling pretty awesome. Yes, you can change your feeling state quickly by JUST CHOOSING A DIFFERENT THOUGHT that makes you feel better!
That’s how POWERFUL your thoughts are!
